As a principal and Director of Design, Jim leads CTA’s approach to integrated design. He guides integrated teams — including designers, owner, contractor, and other stakeholders — through a collaborative process characterized by holistic decision-making. He does not promote a particular architectural style but allows each design solution to grow naturally out of its conditions and to derive meaning from its place. Jim believes sustainable, synergistic strategies created from the artful integration of all design disciplines, are the foundation for exceptional design. His process is characterized by an essential idea or vision that guides the project team and his work strives to be timeless, use regional materials appropriately, be sensitive to context, and create buildings that are narratives for their place and function.

Nick is an eighth generation educator with extensive experience in facilitation of large and small groups. In the past decade, Nick has facilitated more than 160 planning workshops with 240 schools throughout the United States on the development of exceptional learning environments. Nick is Montana’s only professional affiliate of the Partnership of 21st Century Skills and a past president of the Montana Chapter of CEFPI. Nick’s work focuses on sharing current research from educational thought leaders around the world, stretching the thinking of Education Innovation Teams, and developing solutions that are highly relevant to local communities.

Karen is an educational planner/designer with over 15 years’ experience working with education environments. She has extensive, broad experience in planning, project management, and design for numerous educational projects, but has focused her attention on higher education. She has facilitated many interactive planning sessions with complex, diverse groups to reach consensus on a path forward. Her involvement with the Society of College and University Planning (SCUP) and APPA Leadership in Education Facilities keeps her at the forefront of education research and developments. Karen brings a deep understanding of the interactions between learning experiences, human connections, and physical space.

Corey is Director of the Education Design Studio. He has over 20 years’ experience planning and designing education environments, and is actively involved with the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI), APPA Leadership in Educational Facilities, and the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP). His passion and focus is creating innovative, flexible, adaptable and highly effective learning communities for diverse learners of all ages.

Kristine’s many responsibilities as project manager and project architect include: client management, planning, marketing, facility assessment, cost estimates, specifications, drafting, and construction management. A specialty of Kristine’s is acting as a liaison architect/owner’s representative, which includes guiding the client through the construction process, from design to occupancy, ensuring seamless coordination of furniture, equipment, data, audio-visual, electrical, security, and everything in-between. As the only designer in Montana with a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Professional Designation, Kristine remains up-to-date on school security concerns, keeping clients abreast of current trends and discussions.
