CTA’s Site Group is excited to announce the expansion of its Playground Safety Inspection staff. Landscape architect-in-training Stephanie Donovan of CTA Billings recently passed the exam to become a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). Knowledge gained from certification helps in the initial design of playgrounds and contributes to properly maintaining safety. Missoula landscape architect Ezra Williams holds the same certification, and currently designs and provides support for CTA’s playground projects. Both Donovan and Williams look forward to taking on more playground designs in the future.
Engaging a certified playground safety inspector is essential to legally documenting playground conditions on a regular basis and designing playgrounds to be safe when first installed. The certification is nationally recognized and issued by the National Recreation and Park Association. Cities, schools, and other owners of public playgrounds normally create a maintenance schedule that includes inspections, a plan of action for any incidental wear and tear, and responses to reported injuries. Having the certification is extremely advantageous when making decisions to repair or remove existing equipment and during the selection and layout of new equipment.
“Stephanie’s recent efforts in becoming certified will not only serve her when evaluating existing designs but will greatly add to her own designs as well. CTA has an incredible team of landscape architects and Stephanie’s recent certification will double our ability to provide good feedback for clients with existing playgrounds as well as influence our own designs.
I first became certified shortly after my son was born and the information learned while taking the CPSI class is eye-opening to say the least. Having Stephanie on board will allow us to better serve our existing clients while also expanding regionally. As we further expand into the recreation market, having solid, energetic design professionals like Stephanie will prove to be a great asset for CTA and our amazing clients.”
