Montana Air National Guard – High Expansion Foam System Design
While adhering to a fixed budget and the limitations of an existing sprinkler system, CTA’s Fire Protection team was able to upgrade the 31,000 sq. ft. hangar’s high expansion foam system. They performed extensive water flow testing to determine the foam system’s water demands in relation to the water supply. The team was able to use an existing sprinkler system instead of adding a fire pump and designed the system to hang within the current joist space to avoid conflicts with the operation of the overhead crane system, while providing enough air intake clearance to allow proper foam generation. This unique set of challenges in this project allowed our team to design innovative and cost effective solutions.
