Kicking off CWI’s Ada County conceptual campus design process

In 2014, CTA’s Education Design Studio guided master planning efforts for the College of Western Idaho’s 100-acre Canyon County Campus in Nampa, ID. With last year’s focus on their rural campus development and growth complete, we now turn our focus to development of an urban campus. The diversity between the two primary CWI campuses will offer great opportunities for students and incredible synergies within the two counties that CWI serves. We are extremely excited about helping CWI and the entire Treasure Valley community envision a new Ada County Campus in downtown Boise, ID! CTA_post_CWI_AdaCountyCampus_1CTA Architects Engineers is kicking off its conceptual campus design process for the College of Western Idaho’s Ada County Campus with an invitation for the community to provide insights and ideas. As part of its due diligence, CWI contracted with CTA Architects Engineers to develop a conceptual campus design for land being considered for purchase as the College’s permanent Ada County Campus. The 10-acre property is located at the corner of Main Street and Whitewater Boulevard in Downtown Boise’s West End.

The goal of the conceptual campus design is to determine what is possible and what is preferred for this property as CWI’s Ada County Campus. Gathering community insights is key to this process, and there will be opportunities for the public to be involved in-person and online:

  • In-person at one of two Community Insight Sessions at Whittier Elementary, 301 N. 29th St., Boise
    • Tuesday, Sep. 1 | Drop in any time from 4:15-7:15 p.m.
    • Thursday, Sep. 3 | Drop in any time from 4:15-7:15 p.m.
  • Through an online survey at

The Trustees and Administration want to ensure students, faculty, neighbors and the general public have multiple opportunities to share their insights and ideas during this process,” said Guy Hurlbutt, Vice Chairman of the CWI Board of Trustees. “As part of our 180-day feasibility period on this property, it is important that we hear what is not only possible, but what is preferred by the community.”

Following the insight sessions, the CTA team will meet with governing agencies and use the information gathered to develop multiple conceptual approaches for the property. A Community Vision Workshop will be held on Tuesday, Sep. 22, at Whittier Elementary from 6-8:30 p.m., and is the next opportunity for the public to provide feedback.
